Kabbalah Jewelry
Kabbalah (Kabbalah or Kabala) is an aspect of Jewish mysticism. Is an interpretation of the Torah, or the religious mystical system of Judaism claiming an insight into divine nature. With the combination of Hebrew letters Kabbalah creates symbols such as of health, prosperity, love, and protection against the envy eye.
Some aspects of Kabbalah have been studied and used by non-Jews for several hundred years and have become very trendy over the past few years.
The word "Kabbalah" is derived from the Hebrew root "to receive, to accept", and in many cases is used synonymously with "tradition". According to Jewish tradition, the Torah (Torah - "Law" - the first five books of the Old Testament) was created prior to the world and advised God on such weighty matters as the creation of human kind. When Moses received the written law from God, tradition has it that he also received the oral law, which was not written down, but passed from generation to generation. At times the oral law has been referred to as "Kabbalah" - the oral tradition.
Jewelry adornment has been an important part of Kabbalist and Jewish attire for over 4000 years in the form of amulets and decoration. The first ever jewelry pieces in history were amulets used as protection. Many of the symbols used in modern adornment are the same as they were 4000 years ago.
Amulets (charms, ornaments, trinkets,) are worn to protect against evil, injury, bad luck, bad energy and are said to have mystical powers. They may bring health, luck, fertility, power, success, love, protection, courage, wisdom and so on. Often worn round the neck or arm, but others guard homes and spiritual places. A mezuzah, for example, is an amulet that adorns and protects the home, while some consider teffilin (worn by Jews on head & arm) to be a talisman worn on the body. The Torah itself has been called an amulet for Israel.
In Hebrew, “kamia” or “kemia” is an amulet or charm against harm. The literal translation is “binder.” Many ancient Jewish amulets are written with the names of God, with Biblical phrases or with coded messages using Hebrew letters.
